I am running Win7 64bit and I just upgraded from Office2007 32bit to Office 2010 32bit.
When opening Outlook 2007 I would see the Avast module splash frame and I could see avast listed as an add in.
Now with Outlook 2010 I do not see any splash frame on start up and I do not see an add in listed.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Avast with no change.
The mail shield is running.
Should I be seeing a splash frame on start up and should I see an add in or did I make a mistake?
Thank you for the response.
That box is already checked.
I do not think the plugin is running because the add in is not listed and even though i am receiving emails there is no activity in the mail shield traffic graph.
I tried opening the Add in Manager and manually adding the plugin ashOutXt.dll but it said that it was not a valid Office add-in.
ashOutXt.dll uses a MAPI interface which is no longer supported in Office 2010, nevertheless its job is completely taken over by the mail shield, so you are still protected. However you should see the antispam toolbar listed even under 2010.
Am I missing something? There is setting in the Mail Shield for marking clean/infected…etc emails (incoming and outgoing)No matter what is checked, there is NO note about Avast activity at all. I’m reading here that scan is running anyway, but notification is not inserted in emails. HUH? What for are those settings option there? How can I know scan is scanning? Can any1 please explain any logic behind this?
doktornotor, your answer is VERY helpful. Let me post this quote:“Don’t shy away from criticism, because it’s healthy
and it makes you better at what you do”.I like AVAST, I believe AVAST is one of THE BEST! That’s why I’m trying to found solution for every “OOPS” I discovered! doktornotor, let me ask you: Are you on some kind of medication? If not, you should be. Please do not skip your daily dosage.
doktornotor,“dude”,…“inserting AV “signatures” into email body breaks digital signing and encryption. (S/MIME, GPG)”. T%here is some missing explanation WHY this WAS possible with previous versions and NOT NOW!?
Because you have chosen to sign/encrypt your email (outgoing emails) or the sender has chosen to do so (incoming emails). For all emails that have not been signed/encrypted/both, it works just perfectly fine.
Because it breaks the signature validation and/or encryption. You cannot temper with signed/encrypted stuff - defeats the entire purpose of the integrity checks. Doh! :
The previous behaviour was the bug, not the current one.
Are you telling me that scanning incoming/outgoing ENCRYPTED emails and insetting notification about it was THE BUG??? Really? Can you explain what for is this function still there if is not working with NEEDED current settings?
Yes, inserting content into email body of signed/encrypted stuff will result in failed validation (properly so) and will destruct the encrypted mail. And note, I am speaking about email signing/encryption, not connection encryption. If you are talking about account setup (TLS/SSL) in your email client, you once again failed to read the help file. If you do this instead of letting avast! take care of encryption, your email will not be scanned at all because it is impossible (otherwise, encryption would be totally useless) or inability so send/receive mail.
Thanx guys for any help. Again I did absolutely “step by step” what is in that solution link. I change every setting required in that “how-to”, in Outlook 2010 and in Avast. It is not working.Period! With this settings I CANNOT send or receive any email using Outlook 2010.
I’m one big ear, any ideas? Thanx in advance.
