we’ll soon be releasing a program update for v5 (a first program update after the official launch). If you’d like, you can test the pre-release bits now. Anyone who has problems with the official build (5.0.377) is welcome to do so.
Download links: links removed for now – please wait an hour or two, there will be another refresh
(sorry, no incremental update for now - but running this full package on a computer with 5.0.377 already installed should allow you to do the update; alternatively, you can always reinstall).
This is a service release that is supposed to fix most of the issues reported for the 5.0.377 version. Most importatly, the intermittent BSODs should hopefully be gone.
Also, two new language modules - Korean and Hungarian - should be included (even though the “officially released” languages are currently still English and French only).
Downloaded and installed over 5.0.377. Program detected previous version and suggested an upgrade. This went smoothly and then it suggested a reboot.
However before that i tried the upgrade program again and it appeared to update to 393 ok. I then rebooted the pc. When the pc rebooted the default modes were all turned off. i turned them on and its working fine.
Thanks. Will reboot a few times and report how it goes.
Next reboot went perfick! Waited till saw desktop and it had settled. Then opened Avast and all protection functioning.
Running XP SP3 on Acer netbook. First time pc complelety locked up after install, “ball” had exclamation mark, had to boot into safe mode and remove Avast. Reinstalled 377 and appeared generally ok apart from reportig out of date, tried update again and same result. It appeared to work fine on W7
I have now run the Avast 5 uninstall tool again and tried to install the latest version 393, pc has again locked up on installation progress, finishing setup screen - what a waste of time! Back to safe mode and uninstall tool.
I did an install from scratch, and all went fine Although, the bug in version 377 Pro which causes that the GUI has a communication problem with the sandbox is still there in version 393 :-\
Edit : After a reboot it seems that the bug is fixed So maybe a reboot is needed for the sandbox to work properly ??? Avast! didn’t ask for a reboot btw :-\
Just installed it, the instalation went fine but my computer frooze just after it finished installing. Had to manually restart. I’ll try starting the shields again to see if it freeze again or if i have BSOD. Ill get back.
After installing this version of avast! 5 over the current one available my computer froze upon restart. Windows XP Pro SP 3 // avast! 5.0.393. Had to uninstall in safe mode and reinstall the previous version.
