Avast is stopping Media Centre EPG Updates. Not really a big problem as I can disable Avast for 10 minutes and get up to date. Does someone have a solution for this (ie an exemption somewhere) because I want to pass this PC on to my daughter and I’ll be password protecting Avast.
Running Vista Ultimate x64 sp2 and Avast Antivirus 5 Pro (version 5.0.462)
Hi Ripshod,
Welcome to the forum,
anyway do you have any desktop firewall at your machine?
And then have you try with others application at your machine to do update the patch or firmware as well?
Cheers,
Can you tell what is stopping it? Which shield blocks it?
It’s got to be either Web Shield or Network Shield. More likely Web Shield as I’m using mobile broadband. I can’t find anything in the logs to tell me. Errors are logged in the event viewer but no real information. If I knew the name of the application that does the update, then maybe I could set up exemptions for it??
You are using the pro version, not AIS as I see.
So I am afraid that there is not a simple solution at hand.
I’ll try to get someone more knowledgeable to this thread.
Ripshod, Web Shield just scans… does not block.
Only AIS (the suite) has a firewall.
Seems other program could be interacting and conflicting, blocking the updates…
Hi Ripshod,
May you go to Start - Control Panel - Then type “All problems” at blank field at the right top.
Then from there you may see, what is exactly what happened with your applications?
May you share with us back in here?
Cheers,
I’m using Windows firewall. Strange that disabling all shields for 10 minutes enables me to download the EPG updates. The only way to test Windows Firewall would be to wait until I really need to update, disable firewall and try the update (that’ll take about 10 days)
Search for ‘All problems’ leads me nowhere
Hmmm… maybe a Web Shield bug?
A little more info.
I’ve watched task manager and indeed Media Centre does connect and download. It appears the update just isn’t being written to disc.
Hi,
Have you check at your control panel for the all problem issues?
You may also monitor with Process Explorer too to see whether your application run it well.
cheers,
