I have just purchased 6 licenses and installed the first of them on to a three week old PC onto which I had installed 4.8. Everything seemed to go well until I rebooted and then I lost my internet access. I did all the usual things, renewed my IP address rebooted etc. to no avail. When I stopped Avast completely, the internet came straight back on; as soon as I restarted Avast it went off again. It says that its fire wall is NOT on.
I registered the product and was told I would receive an email to activate but nothing has arrived ( no its not in spam or any other folder) so I can’t even send an email to tech support. I was surprised to find there is no telephone support but that would be ok if I could send an email to someone. I have to say if getting help is this hard this is not the product for me I don’t have the time to spend hours trying to get Just one of six pc’s working. Right now I am a very unhappy customer, if anyone can help with the internet access I would be most grateful, and if anyone from Avast can sort out my registration so I can at least talk to tech support I would feel slightly more confident in the company than I do now.
I don’t mean to come off as such a grouch but it’s been a long day and I don’t need it to be any longer.
Can you please tell me which product did you purchase - AIS (Avast Internet Security), Pro, or Free? It sounds like you attempted the off-line registration whereas the online registration is the quickest way to go. Depending on your product, see which directions you need below:
*Once you have purchased Avast Internet Security 5.0, you will receive an email with your license file attached to the email address specified during the purchase process. You need to have Avast Internet Security 5.0 already installed on your machine to insert the license file into the program according these instructions: http://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=476
*Converting your Avast Pro 4 License to an Avast Pro 5 License Key: http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php Make sure you use the same email as you used to register for the 4.0 license.
Download the Avast Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HD or you desktop (it has uninstall tools for both 4.0 and 5.0).
Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
Uninstall Avast through “Add/Remove Programs” through Control Panel.
Boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
Reboot twice.
Clean your computer up (clean up cache, temporary Internet files, etc.).
Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
Get Internet access and update Avast definitions.
Register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro or AIS.
In your next post, please let us know the following:
Information about your machine: OS, RAM, other security software including previous antivirus and current/previous firewall.
How do you connect to the Internet (proxy, cable/DSL, etc.)? Thank you.
