I am using Avast 5 but I noticed that my computer is slower when using Avast 5.0. I noticed it when I launched Skype. It tolds me that my computer was slow and when Avast was turned off, it was seen as a fast computer !!!
Please, bring the same level of Avast 4.8 to Avast 5.0. Using Avast 5.0 is like being in Matrix

Important, what specs is your computer? how much ram & what op system are you using. Xp needs 256mb of ram minimum to run well more than 512mb will be much better. Vista needs more as it is a resource hog! :o
Try a sort of repair in the control panel
Add/remove program
Click on remove/change avast(I think it is written like that)
Scroll down the new window’s page
Highlight repair by clicking on it
Then click next after the repair please reboot and try to see if there is any changes!

I have a Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz with 2GB of RAM and Windows seven.
I installed Microsoft MSE and my computer is running fast but when I install Avast 5, it is slower. Is there an upcoming version that will optimize computer ressources ?

Any other antivirus in the past or running in the computer?
The 5.0.418 version is NOT a resource hog. Something is wrong in your computer.
yup it should have been even a lot lighter than the avast 4.8

Did you run the removal tool for 4.8 before upgrading to 5?
I would remove MSE, Avast, download Avast 5 Uninstall Tool and ccleaner. Restart into safe mode by gently tapping F-8 key and choosing Safe Mode. Next run ccleaner and the reg-cleaner in ccleaner and next run the Avast 5 Removal Tool. Next reinstall Avast 5 again.
Or you could smash the F8 key, gently tapping doesn’t make it do it any better. ;D
