Avast 5 startup time 5 min

Why should it take avast 5 minutes before it’s fully operational ? I only have avast, comodo firewall and window defender at start up.Am using vista with 2GB of memory. I have had avast for along time and was happy with it until now. I would thankful for any help.

I honestly can’t tell, avast doesn’t make my boot times longer; CIS that I don’t use atm did, a bit, but not dramatically. You’re talking about 5 minutes, that’s a lot, an awful lot, must be something else going wrong on your system, conflicts between drivers, only you can troubleshoot that…take a look at your settings in Def+ and see the logs too…
Also, you can check what’s up in your Windows events: boot times are logged there…

see precisely there:
event viewer: >>>> applications and service logs >>>>Microsoft >>>> Windows >>>> diagnostics-performance >>>> operational

You do not need have Windows Defender enabled with Avast installed, because Avast offers protection against Spyware.

yeah but that’s not enough to explain his boot times…Win defender impact is minimal on performance and hardly conflicts with anything, even as resident. It’s an anti-spy, not an AV.

Sure avast protects against spyware but not enough, defender has a better detection rate for spyware than avast.
the two have no conflicts so i prefer to have defender enabled on my system along with avast.
just my ²cents.

Strange, in my case no problems so far… Using Avast Free in Windows 7 4bit with 4 Gb memory. Windows Defender is off, using Windows Firewall. 8)

I took avast 5 out, installed avast 4 took 38 seconds to boot.Reinstalled av 5 took almost 5 min from start up to the time I could do anything.
Am doing away with version 5
