Unable to start Mail Shield in Windows 7 64 bit(Professional) using Eudora on my Laptop…
Installed fine in Windows XP using Eudora.
Cold reboot as suggested in Thunderbird thread did not work.

Same problem here on Win Vista Home basic 32 bit. Any clues/hints on what to do? :-[
Same problem with Windows XP Professional x64 & Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.
Additional info:
Thunderbird is installed on the main drive and points to a data file that is on an encrypted (true-crypt) drive.
Please check file version of C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aswRdr.sys
I’m using XP and the old version of Eudora. The shield started up ok, but the first time I checked mail I got a message concerning something about the secure sockets. Now if I have the shield turned on, I can’t connect to the mail server either from Mailwasher or Eudora. If I turn shield off, I can connect.
I seem to remember having to do something about this a long time ago when I put my first version of Avast on the computer.

Send me file setup.log from avast5\setup folder, I’ll check if there is some problem in installation.
Also, you can try to completely reinstall program - uninstall avast, restart Windows and install avast again.
Will do clean install when I get home (remove via the add/remove programs in safe mode, restart, then reinstall… just to be sure). Will report on outcome. ETC 4 hours.
Well, that was a drag but a simple reinstall fixed it. All scanners are up and running. 
I’m new at posting in forums, so forgive me if I haven’t done my research properly. I had the exact same problem with Eudora after downloading Avast 5, so I tried the clean install. It worked at first and I could receive mail, but then it reverted to giving me an SSL connect error for incoming mail. Now the only way I can receive mail is if I turn off the mail scanner for incoming mail in Avast.
What do you suggest since the clean install didn’t seem to work?
