I don’t know how you can directly compare the resident shield ?
So I presume you actually mean the on-demand scans ?
With a new installation of avast6 you won’t have the benefit of a populated Persistent cache, which would mean a slightly slower scan for the first few scans.
For me avast6 on-demand scans are faster than avast5.
You can compare the relative speed of the two because using Browsers, P2P apps etc you can see how they respond to input via the Net and your computer. Of course Web content is constantly changing and being updated so you can not test a Browser’s relative speed time against the same identical input from the Net unless you are testing the two versions simultaneously on two logical computers. Having said that if you test the Browsers within a relatively short time period you should get a pretty accurate relative time comparison between the two versions.
As DavidR has said it is more than likely due to an unpopulated cache being that it is a fresh install, after running a full scan of the system and populating the cache things should be back to how you think they were before.
Where exactly does it say that avast! 6 is faster than avast! 5?
well
is avast resident shield v6 more fast then 5 ?
by the way it’s not explicit but…
The fastest antivirus –
now leaner and meaner
AV-Comparatives.org rated avast! antivirus as the fastest solution for Windows. New version 6.0 brings even stronger technologies, in an even smaller packag
They walk forward and not backward
Of course, protection increase with technology but it takes resources. The balance between protection and performance is the key.
I don’t think there were any optimizations of speed. The scanning itself is exactly the same (because the engine - virus database - is identical).
Whether there are some additional operations connected to the improvements in Behavior Shield or AutoSandbox… can be, though it’s hard to say what effect it might have. So avast! 6 resident protection probably won’t be faster… and yes, it’s possible that it might be a bit slowed; that comes with the protection. (Just as well as the general scanning gets slightly slower in time, due to virus database growing - no matter what program version you have).
Even if we take the marketing talk seriously ;D - that doesn’t compare the speed of avast! 5 and 6 in any way.
