Hello to all! I think I have figured out why avast! 5.0 Internet Sec version doesn’t play well with Win 2K. Basically - the firewall appears to be shutting down my NIC connections. Everything will appear fine from a hardware standpoint but I have no packets being sent or received.
Here is what I did to get avast! to release it’s grip on my NIC connection:
Go to control panel, network & dial-up, LAN connection.
When you restart your computer - you will notice that there is no more firewall tab or options (at least that what happened on my machine).
All internet connections and packets in-bound and out-bound are unencumbered!
Yes - eventually I will by a Windows XP license for that computer but $$$ is tight right now…
SKY - if you read this post - is your firewall fully functioning? In your reply to me you said you had no issues with avast! 5.0 Int Sec / Win 2K Pro. I wanted to reply to you personally - but since I am a ‘newbie’ I cannot do much yet.
Good Evening ! Massive Meaningful Changes…to my mind’s eye…Avast 5.0 is a masterful Gui…Easy on the eye,and even easier to navigate and utilize. But the main crucial component is the Virtualization and Sandboxing Feature…I’ve locked down all of my Browsers…Firefox and Opera and I.E.8. This will continue to evolve in future editions of Avast. And I’d be negligent in not mentioning the Superb Malware protection…the Hallmark of Avast’s success. Also the application is highly configurable adjusting and configuring Scans and Permissions. Enjoy the Female Voice application in announcing updates. All in all a superb product from a superb organization. Sincerely…Zron
I have to say the SandBox feature has saved my day a couple of times. The program works and I can’t say enough. I can’t believe I even take the time to say this stuff but I feel it’s worth it. Avast 5 Rocks and it has saved my computer.
avast! 6.0 is now here so now give it a try. I think avast 4.8 looks like a media player. Try it and see in plus avast 5.0 is pretty good and avast 6.0 is way much better.
