Avast! 5/Windows 2000 installation failure

Greetings,

Uninstalled McAfee-the-hog which immediately improved life. Have run a registry cleaner and Malwarebytes as a precaution; both come up fine (but am going to run them again after I post this query). Have plenty of room for installation.

Installation appears to go fine and then at the end it says it failed. The folder is created but is empty. My first guess is the exe did not download properly, second guess is McAfee has not yet left the building. Any advice?

Log is attached as text file.

Many thanks ahead of time and I confess I wonder about y’all with that most interesting Animal Farm search example…

A lot of these would suggest a corrupt download

Get a fresh copy and try again

Many thanks. I will do just that.

Just in case McAfee still doesn’t leave you alone, here are some links to help:

This article provides the steps to remove McAfee from the Security Center from your computer:

Reboot your machine after each uninstall step.

You might want to use a cleaner, like CCleaner Slim Build http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds when you are done getting rid of your old AV.

After this, then try doing a clean install of Avast and see if this fixes your problem.
