I know this topic has come up before but i cannot find a definitive answer on this… I am running Avast 5 Internet Security and want to know if running Avast’s Firewall alongside Window’s Firewall will cause any problems/issues??
I am currently running them both and do not appear to have any problems.
I have heard that it is not a good idea to turn Windows Firewall off and apparently both Firewalls will work together just fine???
Please, can anyone give a definitive answer on this one???
There is a post here somewhere that explains that Avast works in conjunction with the windows firewall, I have 7 and AIS with windows firewall on - and no problems
Vlk’s answer is valid for XP and Vista, not for Seven, read my post and quote from Microsoft. Seven is an exception because the firewall there can be disabled without disabling the extra security features (like IPsec and else…), this can be checked in the advanced firewall configuration: extra features in Seven are not affected. So if you are in Seven, you can and you should disable Windows firewall, see here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755158(WS.10).aspx
if you don’t feel good about it ;D , and you decided to leave it on, that’s no big deal either as it’s not very intrusive and it’s very unlikely to conflict with another firewall (like in Vista or XP).
