I have problem with Avast! 5, since about a week ago my Avast! 5 wont update. Avast! can download the files before it download the virus database file, it stop when starting to download the virus database.
I think the problem is on my modem connection, because when i copied the virus database URL and trying to download it using IDM, IDM can’t complete the download, just about 70% file part downloaded and it stopped.
I try to change Avast! connection to direct connection without proxy but nothing change.
Any one can help me or explain what exactly happen?
IDM = Internet Download Manager. You know, some kind a download accelerator
Well, when Avast! 5 wont update, i’m trying to find the problem by my self, then i find that Avast! using autodetect connection and i tried to change it to direct connection without proxy, but nothing changed, Avast! virus database updates keep failing to update. I’m confuse because i still can browse the internet normally but Avast keep failing to update due to connection failure.
i’ve tried it but the same thing happen. Avast! keep failing to update the virus database
For Antivirus, i’m using Avast! 5 and a local Antivirus called SMADAV, SMADAV its good for handling local virus(Indonesian).
I’ve been using Avast! 5 about a half year, Avast! 5 running normally until about a week ago, the autoupdate cannot complete the virus database update.
In general, you cannot run more than one resident antivirus program at the same time. Therefore, you need to decide if you want to stick with Avast or SMADAV (assuming it is resident).
Running two AV on the same computer can create all kind of mysterious windows errors and false detections.
In the first time, i only have one Antivirus, AVAST! and why i decided to use SMADAV? Because I’m Indonesian and there so many Indonesian viruses. When i still using onlhy Avast!, Avast! detect no threads in my laptop, but when i try scanning my laptop using SMADAV from my friend’s USB flashdisk, SMADAV detected some local viruses that Avast! can’t detect, YET. i read from SMADAV site that SMADAV can running well with International AV just like Avast!, they suggest their user to run SMADAV with an international AV for protection from other countries virus.
SMADAV is a light antivirus, the size just about 1,6MB or i can say SMADAV is a portable AV.
Talk about autodetect connection, it is AVAST! default connection setting, i change it to direct connection when i’m trying to fix the problem by myself(“AVAST! wont update” problem).
I just set it to autoconnect now, and the same thing still happen, AVAST! 5 can’t complete the virus database update
Is SMADAV a resident or on-demand AV? If it is on-demand you should be fine to run it along side with Avast. If it is resident, there could be a conflict causing your issue. You may want to consider something like MBAM (Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware) http://www.malwarebytes.org/ as an on-demand scanner instead.
Was your install of Avast 5 in upgrade or a clean (fresh) install? Do you have version 5.0.594 installed now?
What other security software do you have on your machine besides SMADAV both currently and in the past, including firewall (FW)?
Is your FW blocking Avast from connecting to update?
