Thanks,
I like the gadget.
It was one of the most frequently asked for enhancements for avast! V6.
Two ways to get rid of it:
Thanks
Vlk
VLK Thanks!
Used #1 and it worked fine.
Love Avast but not the gadget…
@ Vlk
Is there any reason why the gadget doesn’t appear in the Gadgets Gallery from the desktop right click menu.
Mine was on the desktop but not in the gadgets folder but the shared gadgets folder, so option 2 isn’t available uninstall from the gadgets gallery and would reappear on reboot, if just closed. This is on my win7 starter netbook.
David, I’m afraid it’s a remaint of an earlier beta that was installing the gadget in a “less supported” way.
Normally (with a clean install of v6.0.1000) the gadget should be accessible through the gadget gallery.
Thanks
Vlk
OK, I had used the UI update in my beta/RC version.
I didn’t do a clean install as I couldn’t get the 6.0.1000 setup file.
Sorry, number 2 option there doesn’t work.
Clean install of Avast 6.0.1000.
It acts like it uninstalls from the gadget pane, but as soon as you terminate and re-enable sidebar.exe, the gadget comes back onto the desktop.
Even though now, it isn’t in the gadget pane anymore after choosing to “uninstall” it from the pane.
Uninstalled gadget through the Avast “Change” option. It uninstalled the gadget, but gave me one of these afterwards. Windows 7 x64 SP1.
The gadget removal process posted here worked for me as well…Although i think it would be better for all users if the gadget control was available in the Avast GUI…My issue with the gadget was that it was too big…I keep 6 gadgets running in the sidebar at all times monitoring CPU usage, network and other things…and i thought the Avast gadget was just too large…To run it in my sidebar wiped out 2 of my other gadgets…It might be more appealing to me if it could be sized smaller.
Those who have or had the problem with reappearing gadget please open registry editor and check if there is a registry value named
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AVAST Software\Avast\bIsGadgetInstalled
and what’s its value.
In Russian sub-forum user ShVonDePP wrote that he has the following value: 01 00 00 00
Okay, maybe I’m the only one on the planet who doesn’t know …
What the heck is this Gadget that I’ve been hearing about?
Where is? Is it on the GUI? WHERE? What does it do?
At this second I have no opinion on it since I can’t even find it?
As you have Windows XP Home SP3 there is no gadgets!

Ahhh! Okay, then. Thanks for clarifying, Kenny.
I have a fresh install of v6.0.1000 on a fresh install of Windows 7, and I have the reappearing gadget problem for all users.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AVAST Software\Avast\bIsGadgetInstalled is REG_BINARY 01 00 00 00
EDIT:
Correction - it’s Vista, not Windows 7.
The first one worked for me on Vista 32.bit.
The second one worked at first but after a restart it came back.
Cheers Vik.
It is Vlk (V L K) not Vik ;D
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AVAST Software\Avast]
