the issue affects mostly connections above 50Mb/s >>>> see my screen shots again

I thought that Vlk or Igor said at speeds above 100Mbps.

Since the OP’s speeds are way lower than even the 50Mbps if that is the limit at which it kicks in. Then there has to be something else in the mix.

I did a test not just on speedtest.net but using the link in Zyndstoff’s signature for AIS ( 77,589KB) for a more real world test and downloaded it using Pale Moons internal download function.

I only timed it using the second hand of my desktop clock:
First, with the web shield enabled and it took 10 seconds, I was surprised.
Second, with the web shield disabled and it took 18 seconds, I was even more surprised to find it almost took twice as long.

All of that without resorting to disabling the Use intelligent stream scanning, weird.

Apparently Avast! Ubertechnicals get a special prototype Webshield that is also a Web Accelerator? ;D

I can’t explain it, must be having to suffer for years and years and years of dial-up and average of 52000 Bps before broadband came to the sticks where I live seven months ago.

Three months later I managed to get Fibre to the Cabinet connection (last part copper wire) and a max download of 40Mpps, so very close to its max. So I consider myself very fortunate right now and don’t forget my dial-up days.

40 Mb/s is already pretty fast, and yeah, I know where you’re coming from  … about the web shield issue, that I can reproduce anytime, I started a thread about it several months ago. Vlk confirmed it like I said for connections above 50Mb/s…and it’s been confirmed by other users so… On a side note, I’d like to see Zyndstoff screen shots… ;D

ps: @zyndtoff aka etc…, genuine web shield off and on pics  … and please, in Mb/s, not in MB, probably a typo

If I uncheck ‘Scan web (HTTP) traffic’ and leave the ‘Web Shield’ running, will it block urls only?

No, it won’t do anything…
Net Shield will continue active.

Ok, Thanks.

Also, What happens if i uncheck ‘use intelligent stream scanning’

Well the blocking of URLs by the web shield is only for URLs that you specify. What that option is doing is stopping all scanning for http traffic. However, web shield site blocking, redirects to a local page and is displayed in the browser by the web shield, which should work as you haven’t disabled the web shield (and its http redirect, it just isn’t scanning http traffic). But I haven’t tested that.

So not really sure what you mean by blocking URLs, if that is blocking malicious content in URLs then that would be no.

The network shield blocks known malicious sites.

Basically it works but isn’t scanning at a lower level, e.g packet http traffic, instead it would wait until that particular element/page/image/script, etc. is completely received.

This is the lesser of two evils.

Thank you David for your help, on both of my questions above.

what’s the point of asking the same questions and getting the same answers twice?

Well a bit surprising for me… as many people has already reported that their internet speed has decreased while using Web Shield but I tried it on my friend’s pc and guess what I got 150% speed when Web shield on and when web shield off its a bit slow… Sorry I forgot to take the screen capture but rather I did the test at least 10 times and every time result was same…

I know many of you will not agree to this…

Thanks

Ashish

I’m a bit surprised tbh…

My mistake, sorry.
