Avast 6 disables internet after uninstall.

Hey.

I recently got Avast 6 full edition but I decided to uninstall it after it constantly hanged and froze my computer during scans. Now that it is off my system, I can no longer access the internet (I’m on a different computer right now).

I have read some other artcles and used the Avast Uninstall Utility to get rid of it and also looked up in regedit.exe for the %SystemRoot%\Temp TEMP and TMP files, also the C:\WINDOWS\Temp folder like another poster suggested in another topic but to no avail.

When I put the Avast software back on my computer, I am able to access the internet. I want to be able to go on the internet without having avast on my computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you please tell me more specified about this?

Is your network totally disabled?
Does any program can access internet like Messenger, Mail Client etc?
Can you please attach a HijackThis log to your next reply?

Also, Go to internet Options → Connections → Lan Settings (or any other connection you use to access internet) and check if a proxy is set in there or not.

Ya…I read your post a few times, What Security programs are currently installed on your computer? Which firewall? Which version of Windows are you running? Which Anti Virus did you use or have previously?

My network isn’t disabled. I am on a computer from my home network right now and the internet is working fine. I have 4 computers on the network and all of them are working bar the one I am talking about.

No internet browser or instant messenger can access the internet.

I have Windows Firewall and ActiveArmor Firewall, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Also after I uninstalled Avast I put on Norton Systemworks, but it can’t activate as the internet doesn’t work. (Regarding this, I checked to see if I could access the internet before I installed Norton to no avail.)

I am running Windows XP.

I have a feeling I may have a virus or trojan so I have been running the computer on safe mode.

Are you then able to access internet again? After uninstall Norton, install and scan your computer and see if it become unstable again.
