I just installed Avast! 6 Free on my laptop running Vista. When it rebooted my machine I got an error that the real-time shields were not on. On the SUMMARY Tab there is a FIX NOW button as well as two Turn On buttons that do absolutely nothing. On the REAL-TIME SHIELDS Tab it says, “Protection Status:RUNNING” The program is, however, still telling me that the shields are not running. I did a repair on the program, but there was no change.
As I understand it, the real-time shields is one of the most important parts of this program, any help getting them turned on or turning off the otherwise erroneous error message would be great.
I did browse for topics related to this issues and didn’t find anything helpful, I apologize if I’m re-posting any issue, but if I am, please link me to the appropriate thread, thanks.
Update! It seems that the only shield not running is the Mail Shield. I’m fine with this, however, I would like to have Avast! stop telling me that my Real-Time Shields are not running. That’s a little annoying. I also don’t see an option to turn on/off the Mail shields. Any ideas?
I have this problem too. Just changed from Avira Free to Avast Free (6.0.1203), on Vista Home Premium SP2 with Thunderbird 3.1.11. The other real-time shields appear to run ok, but the mail shield doesn’t even have a start button. Tried repair as suggested above, but it makes no difference. Verified it’s actually not running, by setting ‘Insert note into clean message (incoming)’ in config. What should I do to get the module to run?
Thanks for that. I’ve now run it and deleted all the items it found except for three which apparently related to Avast. Rebooted. Still no joy with Mail Shield.
Thank you. Still the same. I’ve reverted to Avira Free for now (which doesn’t do mailguard so doesn’t keep telling me it’s missing). Maybe I’ll try again some time. Thanks for your help.
