Avast 6 freezes computer

Hi, I’m a new user for avast and had been using the free version for a week now. Earlier, I was experiencing a computer freeze every time I open Jalmus (Java Program, Music learning program, www.jalmus.net)and noticed later on that avast was the one causing the problem. I tried disabling some of the features of Avast but still am having freeze ups every time I run Jalmus… After, I decided to uninstall Avast, wala!, no more freeze ups… Right now, I switched to Avira free momentarily until Avast will have a fix for this…

I like Avast because it has lots of features considering that it’s free and I hope that there will be an early update fix for this so I can switch back…

Just letting you guys know, thanks

My Computer

  • Windows 7 Pro
  • quadcore q8400
  • 4 gig ram

What version of Avast were you using? Was this is upgrade or a clean install?

What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:

  • Antivirus (AV)
  • Firewall (FW)
  • Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
  • Other security software

You may want to consider the Avast Pre-Release v.6.0.1021
Free: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1021/setup_av_free.exe

However prior to reinstalling Avast, you will need to uninstall Avira:

I think it was the latest version of Avast… It was a clean install.

Security software that I currently have:

  • Comodo Firewall ( running at taskbar )
  • Spybot ( Not running at taskbar )
  • A squared Free ( Not running at taskbar )

Security software that I did have in the past:

  • Malwarebytes
  • Superantispyware free

I will try your suggestion and will make a follow up later on…

Thank you for the early reply

  1. First you need to uninstall Avira.

  2. A-Squared I believe contains an AV (antivirus), so this would conflict with other security software, especially another AV. You need to uninstall this via the vendor’s uninstaller tool then reboot your machine.

  3. Spyboot (SB) has created conflicts with some users. You are better off using MBAM (Malwarebytes) and don’t waste your time with SB, however do the uninstall of A-squared first and see if this fixes your problem.

  4. As long as you don’t have the AV enabled in Comodo, you should be fine.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you.
