Avast 6 Gadget

How do you permanently disable that new gadget? I have uninstalled the gadget in Windows 7, yet every time I reboot my laptop it appears again, on top of my calendar and I have to manually close it again. It’s a big pain and very annoying!

It is no longer showing up under GADGETS when I click PERSONALISE, but yet it still pops up over top of my other gadgets on every reboot!

Go to add remove programs and double click avast then click change and when you get the popup screen untick gadget and ok, you might have to reboot.

That appears to have got it - cheers!

Your welcome, if you ever want the gadget back just do the same procedure.

Not trying to be picky, but the avast Gadget should not have been installed without the user’s approval.

Since this thread is entitled “Avast 6 Gadget” I have provided a link below from a MSFT website “Windows Desktop Gadgets”.

Information found on the link could be helpful in working with the Avast Gadget.

I highly recommend for those with the time.
The word count is 3,002 so if you know how fast you read semi-technical stuff you can figure out beforehand how long it will take you to read the page on the link.

You can choose to not install the gadget with custom install when you first install avast and if you have it installed it is quite simple to get rid of it via control panel.
I cant rightly remember but i think on a clean install you do get asked if you would like the gadget and webrep to be installed.

I’m actually surprised they decided to include a gadget at all.

I know there are a “few” left who still use the gadget platform, but for the most part it’s largely an ignored feature by both users and Microsoft. I’d be very surprised to see its return in Windows 8.

But, as they say, “If it works for ya…”

Features come and go, born and die…
I never meet an user that uses Gadgets, really.

Really?

I do.

Clock
CPU Meter - not the most accurate I think, but helpful to me none the less…
Calendar
Weather

And of course, avast!

I suppose it depends on how much screen real estate you have…on my vista system I don’t have to use fulscreen, so I use the sidebar, but my laptop is obviously smaller, so I only use Clock, Cpu meter and the smaller version of the avast one (win7 only) But I only see them when everything is minimised.

I love Gadgets.

Seems there is more speak of gadgets and trinkets than protection. Weird. Consumers…

What do you expect in a thread about the gadget ???
