Well, tried upgrade, tried removing unwanted stupid extras, tried total removal and reinstall …
File Shield default setting cripples Explorer, need to uncheck the "check on open " setting.
Behaviour shield is still useless and has to be removed.
Autosandbox … turn off ( can’t remove the damn thing) Opera,Firefox,IE9 sites have multiple errors, drop down menus are broken, clicked links fail to load, turn off the AS and problem gone.
On each machine shields have intermittently failed to load at boot so system is insecure and firewall has stopped working while browsing.
So we have a product that we have to go back to the install file and remove unwanted or plain useless/broken features to have a usable system.
Add to that the twitter links and Facebook Like button added to a premium product we have a shambles.
Did it not ever occurr to anyone at Avast that these products are used on office machines where the last thing any employer needs is their staff having links like this to play with? Having paid for multiple licences these advertising links should NEVER have been present in the first place.
I cannot recommend anything from Avast anymore and feel I have totally wasted my money as I now have to find and purchase something that is secure and stable.
I’m just guessing but it sounds like either you have some firewall blocking the shields that is not all taken out properly, or another anti virus that has not been properly removed and is also running…Check your Task Manager for running programs…Also I would check your registry for previous firewalls or anti virus programs that could still be there…I would also do an advanced search…Good Luck…
For me the webrep plugin and gadget are useless but other people like them. To each his own. I had to reinstall version 6(free) yesterday because the behavior shield wasn’t working after I upgraded from the RC. I do like version 6, i’m hoping the new bells and whistles are actually doing something and not just “feel good” features thrown in to compete with Comodo Internet Security. I personally hate Comodo but I know they include a lot of features in their free AV.
One thing I do agree on is that twitter and “like Avast” should not be there.
No problems here either. How many machines have you installed it on and are you having the same problems on all machines? Is there any other security software on the machine(s)? If there is, then remove it properly and your problems may disappear.
Also, it looks like the problems you have were there before 6.0. So what I suggest is that you continue to bash it without trying to figure out what the problem is.
There seems to be problems on all the machines that you deal with. I would take a hard look at what security software you have installed in the past and security software that is currently installed. What have you tried to narrow it down?
I agree with Dch48. I found 6.0.100 to be far and away better than v5.0.xxx or 5.1.xxx. So much so I upgraded to AIS. 6.0.100 seems to be faster in every facet. Instead of complaining try seeking answers and explanations. The people on this forum are dedicated to assist in a patient and polite manner. If you have a problem let us help. That is what we are here for.
Since most users seem quite happy with 6, in spite of a few initial problems, tell us a bit more about your system. (I am currently running 6 on 4 computers, 1 AIS and 3 free, W7x64 and Vistax32 with no issues.) Coexisting with Windows firewall and Online Armor++, plus Prevx.
What is your OS? What is your firewall? What other security software are you using now and were you previously using? A lot of this sounds like residual interference from something like Norton. If you previously had other security software, did you remove it with something from http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/ .
Did you uninstall from safe mode using the Avast! uninstall tool http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe ?
Very true for me too. On both my work (pro) and home PCs (free) no issues at all. Actually with v6 the PC feels much faster. In one case updated from 5.1 GUI and in another just ran the downloaded installer file. Great job avast! I am going to update one more personal PC today.
I do not care for webrep and feel the ‘like avast’ and twitter ought not to be there on the pro version.
I used the update to go from 5.1 to 6.0 on my XP-SP3 PC and my Win7 notebook. The notebook had no trouble. The XP totally locked up. Avast would not let Task Manager come up. I tried uninstalling in safe mode and then reinstalling with the setup file (from CNET). I tried again with(a slightly larger file) downloaded directly from Avast. Still no luck.
Whenever I uninstalled, I also blew away the files in the programs directory and checked for trash in the registry (using TweakNow). I tried to go back to 5.1 and the virus datafile update would not work. Finally found a link in the downloads for the file to manually update the Avast 5.1. After wasting Saturday PM and Sunday. I have my XP PC back… I hope.
If you have XP maybe you will be lucky, or maybe you’ll go through Hell. You might be wise to wait for an update to 6.0 before you upgrade an XP machine.
