well, i have finally moved to avast6 from crappy avg.
everything is great, i tried to uninstall avast5 to install avast6, and explorer crashed… but it did uninstall it and i installed
avast 6 and everything is fine (the uninstall is working but explorer is out of responding, and i cant call a new explorer.exe).
i tried to uninstall avast6 to check this issue, and it did the same!! so i installed it again, moved to safe mode, uninstalled and everthing was ok.
so… what’s going on?

haven’t tried the new version but it seems that this update has nothing to do with this matter.
anyway, either if i uninstall it from safe mode or from the normal environment, the uninstall works great (even when explorer dies, it still
uninstall and i just can’t see the “restart now” button, so i just restart the computer using the button after a minute.
in conclusion: safe mode- ok, normal mode- crash but works ok.
ideas?
Can you please give me a few more information:
How did you uninstall AVG, Did you used their removal tool?
Why don’t you update to Windows XP SP3 as there are some stability update in that release
Beside Comodo, do you have any other security software installed?
Do you mind post a HijackThis log too?
i uninstalled avg from the “remove applications” feature right from the XP panel control, as i always do.
removal tool? never heard of it, i dont know if they got 1, anyway, avg is completely removed-
i clean it myself manualy after the uninstall, registry+folder+temp folder+Prefetch+drivers folder (im a coder myself).
i dont upgrade cuz i love my sp2
only comodo, i used to have sygate, but i wanted to move to something newer (removed sygate including drivers and registry)
HijackThis - i usually tell people to use it when they got a problem (on another forum i post on windows support) so i know this application-
she won’t help in this situation, i dont believe it has something to do with this computer.
comodo,sygate,avg- uninstalled fine.
i use my computer for at least 15 years and never seen this wierd situation before , i dont really care from it, just wanted to tell
it to the avast team =
anyway i got a temporary solution, from now on i remove my special avast from safe mode, i guess she just wanna feel special!
i trust avast staff to read this thread- i dont want to show-off but this computer has nothing to do with this bug.
i bet its an avast issue with sp2 version (at least my specific one), anyway, i will wait for avast newer software updates.

– btw it cant cause from an old avg or sygate files cuz it works fine on safe mode, looks like avast6 crash when the uninstall
tries to finish the task!
but, repair and the other option works fine, only the uninstall kills the explorer (like a virus lmao)
