Avast 6 Upgraded to 7 by itself when set to Ask

Early this morning Avast Free 6.0.1367 Upgraded to 7 by itself (Win7 Pro SP1 64Bit)
Avast 6 “Program” setting was set to “Ask when and update is available”.
There was no message telling me an update was available before I went to bed. Nobody was using the computer at the time of update. I did not even find out this happened until a sandbox prompt came up and I noticed it was a Avast 7 one.

Is this a bug in Avast 6 or Avast 7?

PS I already had Google Chrome installed, hopefully it would not have installed that also

Here is part of the setup log;

Yikes! I hope this doesn’t happen to me. I’ve have mine set to ‘Ask’ also.

I like to make sure the updates are okay before doing anything.

I’ve just been reading through all the problems with Avast 7 in the threads for the last 3 days, and waiting. :-\

We’re not aware of any such problem.
The log you posted was created after the program was already updated - i.e. the update didn’t happen in the morning, but earlier, certainly before the previous shutdown/reboot.
Are you sure there was nobody else at the computer before?

I would suggest you NOT have avast program update set to ‘ask’, but have it set it to ‘manual’ for program update. I always get a CNET notice a day or two later that there’s a new version out. (Plus, the summary screen of avast tells you there is an update available). Then I come to the forum to see if there are any problems.

the same problem — avast updating from 6 to 7 despite being set to ASK — also happened to Iroc9555

For a moment there I thought I was the only one with this behavior.

Yes Igor I did report it the morning after the inicial release.

I’ve never had it happen before, but I think I’ll set the program update to ‘Manual’ for now, just in case.

Cynderella28.

I have ran Avast! forever, 10 years now, and I’ve never had this happening before when there is a new version available.

OK, log files show it installed on 23.02.2012, 22:29:57
That was Thursday at 10:29PM
That was so far back I might not remember what was going on at the time. Sorry if my report was a false alarm, I just do not know.
