Avast 7.0.1474 IS is drasticly slowing down computer.

Hey guys,

Just installed Avast 7.0.1474 IS a week ago.
And everything I do online is VERY slow.

I’m running windows 7 64-bit. Have tried to remove Microsoft Security Essentials and disableing windows firewall.
Yesterday I tried to reinstall the complete Avast application.

The internet worked fine right after the reinstall, but after rebooting the internet is very slow again.

Any solutions?

It goes from slow to almost stalling if I use utorrent. Dosent matter what setting I have for utorrent in P2P sheild.

Quick heads up, alot of people have problems with uTorrent, or half of them do with it slowing down the computer when Avast is installed, look through this forum section and you’ll see it.

Try Avast Internet Security 8 Beta.

Thanks.

Have to say that even without uTorrent running my internet is signifigantly slower after installing Avast.

Will the Avast 8 beta let you patch to final release once its ready?

Personally I wouldn’t advise this at this point, still pretty early and beta testing shouldn’t be entered into lightly. Give yourself a little time to familiarise yourself with avast 7 and hopefully resolve this issue first. If the problem could be outside avast 7 then installing the avast 8 beta may not resolve it either…

More importantly - Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

When the beta trial is complete, program updates will convert to the regular release.

As stated earlier, I was using Microsoft security essentials, did a normal uninstall of this software.

As of now its just Avast running solo.

I did have multiple viruses that MSE did not find, that Avast cleaned up.

But I can notice the Internet performance greatly increases if I uninstall Avast. So the problem seems to be caused by Avast.

Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc. MSE is [23b] in the list of removal tools.

Ill try doing a format of my windows drive later today. Just to see if this can help me resolve the issue.

I would choose the lessor of two evils and try the M S E removal tool first and reboot. If that doesn’t resolve it a clean reinstall of avast.

Good morning everyone. I joined this forum today and I would try to give my little contribution.
I use Avast free and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75 free (installed by a few days) with all its functions PRO active for a few days. Unfortunately, since I updated Avast free from version 6 to version 7, my PC slows down a lot, and sometimes it seems stuck, especially when I start the database update MBAM.
If I disable the function “Block Websites” of MBAM, the PC back fast.
So I remembered that a long time ago I solved a similar problem by disabling the protection function “JS Javascripts” Avast in “file system protection”. So yesterday I did the same thing, and the problem is solved. Unfortunately, doing it this way, the protection of Avast is less powerful, so I hope someone more experienced than me can find the correct solution.
I apologize for my English translated with Google

lot of you forgets to do full system scan to build cache of trusted files (or any other scan you manually setup to build the cache)

that in most cases resolve any slow downs

thank you, thank you, thank you!!! this solved my issues …the program to remove all remnants of my Norton (even my up to date version as of 2016) and allowed everything to run smoothly again. I highly recommend this procedure!

You’re welcome, Norton can get deeply embedded into your system and all might not be removed by a normal uninstall.
