I am running AVAST Free version 7.0.1474 on Windows 7 (X86). When the program attempted to update the virus database, it failed. I then downloaded the database manually and attempted to install it. The message I received stated that the virus database was already up to date. However, the "Status " page said that it wasn’t and Windows said that AVAST was off. The “Status” page also said that all shields were on. I then disabled AVAST protection and reinstalled AVAST “over” the original installation. AVAST still says that my virus definition is out of date on the “Status” page but shows that it is up to date on the “Maintenance” page (Status page says version 121104-1, Maintenance page says version 121105-0). This appears to be a bug. Please let me know if I need to do a fresh reinstall of the program. Thank you for your help.
Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.
Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.
You may need to reboot after the repair.
This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.
Could we get “Support package” (avast UI > Maintenance > Support > Generate Now") from your computer? Feel free to mail it to me. Or, in case when this doesn’t work, could you send me zipped "c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log" ?
thank you
Lukas.
Thanks DavidR for your suggestion. I ran a repair and that fixed the problem. Much appreciated. Its great to have a forum like this with members that are willing to provide help. I would have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it (a lot more work).
You’re welcome.
Yes a repair should be the first port of call much less hassle than a reinstall.
If you can generate the Support Package as Lukas suggests, it could provide avast with information to help others.
maybe Im not writing in the proper section but…
I had a problem updating the program engine to version 7.0.1474… update behaves as if it doesnt connect to update servers
looking for solution to my problem I found this thread and tried ‘repair’ function from add/remove programs on my xp… sth appears on my screen for a fraction of a sec and then disappears and Im unable to choose anything as there is nothing avast-related on my screen…
now Im worried coz it looks like a more serious problem… possibly a hijack or trojan blocking update function?
help plz
