Avast 7 and WIN7 Firewall

Just wanted to ask guys as I heard that WIN7 Firewall don’t work because of the Avast 7 shields is that true? So you not protected for now until they fix it or what?

Avast and the windows firewall work fine together.

So what’s that all about?

http://forums.comodo.com/firewall-help-cis/comodo-firewall-and-avast-7-t82382.15.html

If you use the Windows 7 firewall and set the policy to disallow outbound connections without an explicit rule, launching a browser and trying to connect to any web site fails. As soon as one adds avastsvc.exe to the policy and allows it to make outbound connections, any browser will connect, even without a rule.

I don’t personally use any Real-time antivirus products, but if I did, Avast 7 would not be on the list, at least until this is resolved. I’d rather have a good firewall anyday.

of course they will connect ;D … as as soon as Avast runs, the web shield is interacting as proxy, so the Windows firewall rule or the absence of rule for any connecting app doesn’t matter anymore. There’s nothing to fix, that’s not a bug.

If you had already composed your answer since you must have already read the link you posted then why ask the question, Thats luring and boardering on trolling >:(
As to the firewall if you decide to activate outbound control then of course you are going to have to add allow rules for processes to be able to connect out and as all traffic has to pass through avast then your browsers are secure anyway.
Frankley speaking anyone that doesnt use realtime antivirus software shouldn’t be running around judging AV companies software because you obviously have no clue and this is not to lesson on your statement of you dont use realtime antivirus products then why do you care what it does with the firewall if you dont use an AV ::slight_smile:

okay ignore my last post I was wrong ::slight_smile: … I’ve used Comodo firewall in the past and there was no such issue. Blocking any app, even with Avast web shield allowed, blocked the app, period. And it must be like that.

I just gave a shot to it, blocking Firefox from AIS firewall, and it won’t connect. Okay, that’s still Avast … so now I’ll try with Windows Firewall and see what happens …

okay same from Windows Firewall if creating a blocking rule for Firefox, it won’t connect …

… now no idea what happens when you Windows Firewall is set to disallow a connection if no rule was created for it, I don’t use that and I won’t test it, that’s useless and time consuming. No idea either how Comodo firewall behaves now, all I know is that AIS behaves just as expected when the web shield is running.

ps: and on a side note if it’s just about disallowing outbound connections globally from Windows Firewall properties, well I tried that too and that works, nothing connects.

That’s discussed extensively in this thread.

yeah that’s a non issue for Avast imo, I checked what had to be checked just now (windows fw related), and found that everything worked as expected. As to Comodo, honestly, I don’t care.

what about avast 7 ( windows 7_ 64) and Comodo Firewall?

may be go ask them (Comodo)… they’re providing a now 5 years old firewall interface … could the issue be on their side?

Interresting reply, you dont care about problems with comodo although its still widely seen as one of the best firewalls for 32bit system. And comodo Firewall and D+ as far as i know is about the only firewall that actually pass tests satisfactory on 64 bit systems when most other firewalls fall through bigtime ??

Sorry for the rant, but thats just a narrowminded reply, that really doesnt help anyone…

And yea i use avast AV with comodo firewall because i actually think Avast is the best AV, and comodo is the best firewall.

Cheers

And by the way. Im not saying that this is an avast problem, might be comodo might be avast i dont really care. Im commenting on the way people using anything but the full avast suite is often treated when they encounter problems.

Just saying…

if being narrow-minded means having no respect for a company that doesn’t deserve any , then I’m narrow-minded ;D thanks for the compliment  … and you know what, I got similar feelings for their fanboys.

Hi All,

And by the way. Im not saying that this is an avast problem, might be comodo might be avast i dont really care. Im commenting on the way people using anything but the full avast suite is often treated when they encounter problems.

Just saying…

This problem started with Avast 7.

It’s rather unfair to expect Comodo to resolve this issue as it was caused by Avast.
It’s also rather shocking that Avast’s proxy service can bypass Comodo FW so easily when they didn’t even try. (They were just trying to make their product better and a side effect was bypassing Comodo)
