Avast 7 Free, "Compatibility Mode"

Read on the net;;; These include a compatibility mode, which is supposed to let you install Avast as a secondary security program; a new Remote Assistance feature,

Did my brain work right when I read the above…, Free version has a “compatibility mode” that allows it to be installed even if you already have another competitors AV program running as the main full time security program ??

Can I install Free 2012 version as more or less a stand alone scanner? & hopefully have at it ?

Or … Please Describe “compatibility mode”

Thank You Thank You

Yes, your brain was working fine when you read it. ;D

Honestly, it is such a taboo idea to me, I have a hard time believing it. But Avast! says it should work, and they would know better than I. Feel free to give it a spin as a second scanner.

It is called “compatible install mode”. AFAIK, it was not really tested enough during the beta cycle. Some users tried it, but at the time the devs. said it wasn’t ready yet. After that, I never saw any specific announcement encouraging beta testers to try it.

If you try it, please report back.

I’ve tried it, with OK (ish!) results. See my post elsewhere
