I’ve just done a clean install of Avast 7 Free, and the total instelled file size is about 204 MB. Is this about right, because it seems quite large?
This seems Ok. My installation is about 211 MB.

Thanks. Good. Just wanted to make sure I hadn’t got any remnants of older versions.
When you consider that the installation file is 73MB (if I remember rightly) and that gets unpacked and the virus definitions alone when unpacked are 71.8MB (current 12033000 defs folder) and there are obviously lots of other files unpacked during installation.
Currently my avast software and its sub-folders are 209MB. There are times when it will be even higher before avast does its housekeeping there may be two or more sub-folders in the defs folder (at times the largest sub-folder), the current VPS folder and possibly the last one until cleaned. The Setup folder is also large, 110MB on mine.
200Mb is quite normal for an antivirus installation.
Years ago, when the technology required, the scanning speed was increased and the file size suffered a little.
We all think that performance is more important than the size limitation, specially in modern computers with quite enough storage space.
