For the past 2+ weeks, AVAST 7 has been overwriting random emails with question marks where the text should be. This happens with email from friends with various webmail programs, email from iPads, and commercial email from software companies (eg, newsletters, etc). It marks the email as “clean”, which is even more confusing. It has created such a problem that I’ve had to stop the email scanner completely.
I’m getting much the same problem with Outlook 2010 under Windows 7. Messages are being overwritten with question marks and/or unintelligible heiroglyphics. It even happened to an incoming message from webadmin@avast.com earlier today! Outlook then “freezes” and I have to force it to close down and restart with Task Manager.
I’ve also found it happens ocassionally with OUtlook 2000 running under Windows XP SP3.
At the moment I have “insert note into clean message (incoming)”, “insert note into infected message (incoming)” and “insert note into clean message (outgoing)” all checked in Mail Shield Behavior settings.
Do I assume from your previous message that I should temporarily be unchecking one or all of these options?
I had relatively the same issue with Outlook 2003 in XP SP3.
I unchecked ""insert note into clean message’’ Incoming/Outgoing and all worked fine.
Maybe, this will solve your issue.
That seems to have only partially solved the problem. I no longer have the problem of emails being overwritten but Outlook 2010 still hangs when I open and then close any new incoming message. This may be nothing to do with Avast at all but I don’t remember it happening before I installed Avast version 7.0.1426.
