avast 7 problem

probably related to the OP’s issue with the free version, there’s also some issues in AIS.

@BTIsaac that post wasn’t for you

Does that mean I have nothing to worry about?

nothing

@logos,

Even avast Free adds services and drivers, so a reboot is “needed” even in clean install. Sure, in some situations a new service and drivers could be started within the setup (no reboot needed), but that’s not the usual case (specially with non P&P drivers).

Anyway, as I said, I’m still testing different situations. Yet, to be on the safe side, I will reboot after a new installation of any program, including avast, whether the setup asks me to do it or not. But that’s just me, and IMHO avast’s setup should at least recommend it too.

I never said that rebooting after installing the free version wasn’t needed at at all, I just said there was no prompt.

Ok, I misunderstood your post then.

So, after more than one report about this lack of request in the installer, it should be time for Avast Team to take care of it.

Same problem as orginal poster.

Hi,

seems to be a problem with avast! not properly changing the the correct avast5.ini value back after confirming the dialogue. We have solved it in the German community forums. Check the translated solution here at the end of the thread.

I am confused as to the status/fix here? I upgraded via UI from last main FREE (non RC) v6 release. I have now rebooted 4 times and am still getting the AVAST dialog to click FINISH to complete the installation.
(Have a DEll w/ XP SP3)

Also, in the AVAST SUMMARY page of the UI, it says I am not connected with any account. What is this?

[UPDATE] Changing the avast5.ini per previous post got rid of the finish install dialog coming back every boot. I don’t see the other settingunder the AVAST UI they are refering to.

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in Safe Mode. Boot after you’ve run it. Repeat this for any major avast! version you have ever installed/upgraded in your computer.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
  7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

Hi Tech,

thanks for the instructions, but that doesn’t work. At least we have some confirmed cases of this problem, where a clean reinstall didn’t work.

Since the translated version of the problem solution in the German avast! community forums isn’t that perfect, I am going to describe them here again:

  1. In the avast! user interface go to → Settings → Troubleshooting → and uncheck “Disable avast! self-defense module”
  2. Search for the avast5.ini file using Windows search, open it and change the parameter ShowSetupOutro under the [Common] section from 1 to 0.
  3. Enable the self-defense module.
  4. Reboot

Problem should be solved.

Sorry avast.de and thanks for your clarification.
