hmm, just a question : does the avast’s users send files like “communityIQ” to the cloud servers ?
bob3160
242
If you’re part of the community, then new infections are received through the cloud, analyzed, new signatures added and
the update is pushed out to the community.
The collective gathering of this information is the Community IO
system
243
But you don’t have to be part of the community to receive streaming updates, do you?
bob3160
244
No you don’t.
However, if you aren’t part of the community and you’re the one that happens to run into something brand new,
Then you could have helped the community to get new protection added.
Since you aren’t part of the community, that new protection now doesn’t help any one because some one from the community has to
run into what you decided not to share before the cure can be past along.
Hope that’s clear. The only thing that’s collected is what actually infected you in order to help every one.

Installation was fine but webrep was not installed on my chrome browser.

It sure is, thanks a lot!
What version is your Google Chrome and did you restart your browser after installing avast ???
bob3160
248
You’re quite welcome.
@ disPlay,
It’s a known problem.
Mine doesn’t work either. Reported and acknowledged. Will be fixed with the next release.
Web Shield and Net Shiels are the protection.
The better in avast is that you can configure it all and are not obliged to use all its tons of features

Thanks bob, I also noted that the scan seems allot slower, the main reason is because the presistent cache is not formed yet?
Most probably.
Your scan settings also have influence.
bob3160
252
100% correct. Mine has gotten a lot faster over time.

Hello,
In V6 there is a dependency between Script and Behavior Shields. If you don’t have the Behavior Shield installed, the Script Shield will not load.
Now I was wondering if that dependency is still present in V7 (I think so) and if it somehow affects the new AutoSandbox or any other feature.
I’m asking just because I usually install neither the Behavior Shield nor the Script Shields in my system.
Thank you very much.
system
254
no, there’s no change (and the auto-sandbox isn’t new in V7)
system
255
with “new” I meant the new version of the AutoSandbox (the AutoSandbox of the V7 with all the improvements)
system
256
that’s all I got from the release notes in the first post of this thread:
“Sandbox & Autosandbox improvements” ;D
… okay this said, there are more settings available for manual sandboxing in V7 (Pro and AIS), and that’s all I can see. The option to sandbox browsers from the webrep (browser protection) page is meant for AIS and Pro users too … obviously … but well I have a doubt now … anybody running the free version could tell me if the option to run browsers sandboxed is available (again from the web rep section) … or not? … it shouldn’t.
Auto-sandboxing might have been improved too, but I have no idea how, may be in relation with the behavior and/or the script shield, but this has to be confirmed by a dev here.

In the free version, Auto Sandbox is still program controlled. That has not changed.
We, the user have no control of which programs are selected to possibly be run Sandboxed.
system
258
so to be clear, the sandboxing options here (screen shot) don’t appear in the free version right ?

@bob we’re not talking about the same thing (see my screen shot again) … I know that what you show in your post (auto-sanboxing) is a free feature, while what I show is user controlled sandboxing related.
