Avast 8.0.1483 update fails: "The package is broken" error

I updated a few days ago and haven’t had any issues until tonight about 30 min ago. The update started, computer crashed, and now manually trying to update returns “The package is broken”. Running Win 7 Home Prem SP 1. Anyone else having the same issues?

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

If that fails - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 78.4 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update. The one you want is the one for avast versions 5/6/7 it is the same for 8.
