AVAST 8 (Free) in Win7 Virtual PC-XP Mode causes repeated crash/reboot

I am running W7 SP1, and using Virtual PC-XP mode solely to use Outlook Express for email.
(I don’t need a lecture on other email. I have tried many others and prefer OE.)
I am also using AVAST 8 (Free) in W7 to protect from viruses in normal operations.

After using Avast 8 for only 2 days in XP mode I find that the Virtual machine crashes and reboots every time that I try to access the C drive of W7.
When I uninstall Avast 8, the crashes/reboots of the Virtual Machine do not occur and it runs normally,
but my email is not protected from viruses.

Is there a way to use Avast 8 in a W7-SP1 Windoes Virtual Machine-XP mode that allows normal operation without crash/reboots?

(Apologies if this was discussed elsewhere in the forum, but my searches did not reveal the solution.)

I've already thought, I'm the only one on the whole planet using exactly this configuration. Now I see there's another one ;)

My system behaves exactly the same. I already asked for a solution in the german avast-forum, but I got no helpful answer except the suggestion to open a support ticket. I’m still waiting for a solution…
