avast 8 restore

i have avast security suite and just updated to the new version 8.
i was having a problem with another program (nothing to do with avast)
and after trying everything to correct the program problem decided to do a windows restore back a few days.
i forgot i upgraded avast and after restoring windows avast is back to version 7+ and will not work. at all.
i tried to get it to update but it will not.
i was going to just download v8 manually and try that, but wanted to ask here first what i can do.

Try a repair of avast:

  1. Control Panel → Programs & Features → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

tried it but the avast program window that opens says:
“error processing packages. please use full update.”

i tried the update tab in the same dialog window and after identifying v8 available, it tried to update it but it said:
“there was an error while changing the product configuration.”

Then try a clean reinstall:

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

i did a clean install.
had no problem with add/remove uninstall and did not need to use the avast uninstall tool.
avast 8 is up and running again.
