Hi, i just installed the new avast version 8 but i noticed on the spoftware updater feature it only lists internet explorer and not the chrome browser which i have installed and use on my pc why is this? Thanks
you are not confused with cleaning browser ???
Browser Cleanup: clean the browser is running on the computer manually, the software scans in search bar and browser add-ons, a list that is installed on your browser, On the first tab, you view the current state of your computer. There you can see a list of objects located in browsers. Displays also supplements that need to be treated with more attention. If the Toolbar is found, you can delete it without any difficulty. to enter any of the tabs, you will find a list of installed add-ons and received in each classification them. there are two possible actions: restore disable extensions or browser settings (restore the browser to its factory default).
Software Updater: some programs may have security flaws that are very dangerous for the OS and even some browsers. By using this new protection, Avast will always be connected if the program you use most have flaws and if the developer had already update it to correct any error.
Listing both here:

Which Operating system ??? what other security programs are you using ??? Which version of Chrome are you using ???
As far as I can tell, the OP is asking a question about the SoftwareUpdater feature of avast! 8 NOT the Browser Cleanup tool.
The SoftwareUpdater tool should list the chrome browser in its list if you have it installed. If yours doesn’t I would first try a “repair” of avast. Go to the Windows Control Panel, choose Program and Features (if you are using Windows 7), highlight avast!, choose Unistall/Change, then choose repair.
You’re correct. My error. :-[

A repair, as mentioned should take care of the problem.
you could also try to reset software updater database by doing the following steps.
- open Avast! interface
- select “Settings” to the right of “Account”
- select “Software Updater”
- select “Database reset (troubleshooting)”
- select “Reset database now”
I have a more general question as to which programs is Software Updater looking at? And can I add? At the moment it seems a very partial list?
It has a fixed small database of monitored applications (mainly popular vulnerable applications like Java, web browsers etc.)
This database is maintained by Avast! developers and the user cannot add additional software to be monitored.
However, Avast! developers have stated that the list will be expanded, though, do not expect it to be anywhere close to the huge database of specialist softwares like Secunia Personal Software Inspector.
Thanks for that
