Avast! 8 UI Crashes Upon Clicking Certain Buttons

This one is a bit odd. I just upgraded from Avast 7! Home Edition to Avast! 8 Home Edition on my laptop. It was previously unaffected by the old BSOD bug in Avast! 7, so I decided to run my version update over there first and see how things went before doing it on my main system.

As for first impressions, I was quite surprised by the GUI changes. They look quite nice, and it was very easy to navigate. I’m also incredibly pleased that the exceptions list was finally made global across the program. That was the one thing that had always upset me before about Avast!'s UI. ;D

Anyway, on to my issue…and it’s a weird one. Within the new Avast! 8 UI, I can click everything and it works as intended, except for three of the buttons on the top row. When in the “Home” page, if I click the “Scan”, “Software Updater”, or “Statistics” buttons, the UI just crashes and the Avast! system tray logo disappears. A few seconds later, the Avast! system tray logo reappears, and nothing else happens. All of the other buttons and links seem to work fine in Avast! 8, so this appears to be isolated to just that top row of buttons. I couldn’t find anything in a forum search and general forum browsing, so I’m assuming I’m the only one getting this so far. For anyone wondering, yes, I have the latest update for Avast! 8 also installed.

Do you have any (recent) unpXXXXXX.mdmp files in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\Log ?

Unfortunately I don’t appear to, no. :frowning:

I have the same crash problem. OS = Vista Home 64 bit

Mine is Windows 8 x64 Pro With Media Center Pack.

To add to the oddity, I noticed that the Software Updater will actually still pop up in the background from time to time, independent of the crashing button in the home menu, but attempting to use it by clicking to install the update still does nothing, with the exception of updating Adobe Air one time. Not sure if it’s related, but just throwing this out there in case it is.

Sorry to bump this. Just wanted to add that using the “Security” tab at the top to try and circumvent the GUI crash also leads to the crash.

As a side note too, this GUI crash does not happen at all on my other system, which is running Windows 8 x86 Pro With Media Center Pack.
