Avast 9.0.1501 Performance Issues..(Shields)

Hey guys, haven’t been here in here awhile. I would like to address some performance issues I have noticed in this new version.

Let me take a moment and say I do not care about performance when running scans, I want top notch security when running those. I do not care about a little thing called time when that’s running, just as long as it’s very very thorough.

My problem is with the current real time shields, and some minor issues with maybe feature removal or perhaps they were just moved around in the interface and called a different thing.

The real time protection is why I chose to use avast in the past. It seemed second to none as far as I’m concerned. A little background, I have a few children, and these kids seems to want to download “warez”. Now avast would do a very good job at stopping the bad things associated with downloading such things [PUP’s, etc] Or even while browsing for them. I know because I can hear the sirens go off in the other room while I try to watch TV. So having real time shields set up for maximum protection while keeping performance is what I need. They do play some pretty hefty 3d games, and well I do too. I’ve noticed quite a performance loss (CPU Bottle-necking etc) while active shields are running with my settings I had for the previous release. I do not want to sacrifice security PERIOD. I just am wondering why these real time shields are such a burden to system resources now.

It does not seem to matter what settings I try to run, all have the same result even if I add directories to the exception list. I’ve tried gaming mode, but that just seems (from the description) to suppress the info popups. Now I know I could just disable all the shields when running such applications, but doesn’t that kinda defeat the purpose of a real time “shield” Maybe I’m too paranoid I don’t know. I would like to have them running at all times, scanning all files, and behaviors. because if something was missed well you know. I don’t want it doing its deeds while the shields are down.

Also what happened to the behavior shield, and the script shield? I relied on those a lot. Now something I have also noticed I do not see, auto sandbox settings either. Not a big issue as the shields are. Wait a sec was it changed to deep screen?

Anyways some feedback: If some of these shields were integrated into file system shield or whatever the case may be. It seemed they ran better b4, and the interface I do not like at all. I am missing the older interfaces that showed everything, and the status of each individual shield I miss too, It seems there is information that is really easy to miss in the interface now, and if your not watching it in real time well…I can’t seem to find it.

All this is on a clean install of windows 7 x64 Ultimate, had to drive failure recently. =[ So drivers are up to date for everything. All fresh install and all windows updates current. Other then the performance issues I’ve noticed AVAST was pretty good, and saved the pc from my naughty kids.

Notes: Yes I know that having settings on scan all no exceptions no cache would have performance issues, I’ve just noticed that’s its more so now then what it was prior. Thanks AVAST It was (still is) good, I hope performance can be cleaned up a little. Maybe it’s a windows 8 thing because I’ve noticed some things with software that has been updated for compatibility for win8, I dunno I just miss the old avast. I’m also afraid to go back as I do not want to have stuff missed, is there differences in program versions, other then scanning engine and virus defs. that could cause things to be missed by avast? If this is not the case then I will surely go back a version or 2. Thanks again for a great FREE service avast.

With all due respect I disagree with you when it comes to performance.
v2014 scans are, on my system, at least 30% faster. Webpages load quicker.
Overall v2014 is a huge improvement over any previous version. As far as GUI navigation
goes v2014 really isn’t that difficult.
