Btw: it’s not that I can’t speak german – but if I set up an english OS with english Avast, I should be able to assume the software being in english – but obviously avast can’t … and MSIE does not have ANY preferred language selection!

What language do you have selected in the os?
What keyboard layout have you selected?

Language in Menus and Dialogues: English! And that is what counts.

Btw.: the “regional options” shall not affect anything else than explicitely mentioned:
– numbers
– currencies
– date
– time
It is not allowed to influence the language of anything else!

And the set “location” is NOT language-dependent!

That setting is only allowed to influence keys and keypress on the keyboard – and nothing else!!!

Some software do look at the regional settings to automatically select a language.
Not saying avast did that, but it can be.

That should not be!

Obviously it did … there would not be any other reason to present german text if all besides the numbers-/currency-/date-/time-setting is set to english …

Btw: in WinXP (and in the same way in later Windows) there are several regional and language settings:
– Standard and formats (affecting numbers, currencies, date and time)
– Location (affecting what information you get – and NOT in what language that would be!!!)
– if your system has installed more than one language, you can also choose the language in menus and dialogues
– there is an advanced setting for the menu to display in non-unicode programs. but that does not to have influence to inserted text or information!

Conclusion: Avast is looking up some language setting somewhere where it should not …
