I have been bitten by the avast! update bugs several times, several different ways, over several different versions.
To be as close as possible, from v4.0 when the LCARS skin was available,it matched so nicely with the VLC LCARS skin,(sniff, weep)

I’m set to Manuall Update, never, ever, auto update,anything.
The 2 things I have learned is this:
#1) From the Admin account uninstall avast! with the utility, then install the new program. this ensures a clean install.
#2) Don’t beta test, wait a few months to update, let a few updates pass, this ensures a working version.
#3) Read the forums, learn what to expect if things go wrong and how to remedy/fix/patch them.
#4) Do this for all your security software, antivirus, antimalware and firewall.
To answer your question now,I have no opinion on this new version, haven’t installed it yet due to what I’ve read here.
