This morning my Avast pro needed a programme update which completed successfully. Avast shows I am not connected to any Avast account. On trying to connect it refused all of the email address I entered though they were current valid addresses and also included my Avast ID. I was unable to get a reminder for the password (though I was confident that I had it correctly) because no email address I entered was on their system. What is the significance (if any) of not being connected to an account? Avast seems to be working OK. I was unable to submit a ticket to technical support because it persistantly refused to accept the check characters required to submit the ticket. I cannot recollect one way or another whether I was connected to an account previously but I had recorded an ID & password in connection with my Avast subscription
I would recommend putting in a support ticket via the telephone about Avast not accepting your email address. http://www.avast.com/en-us/support
If you have the pro version, you likely have a receipt, or otherwise a proof that you purchased the software. They should be able to help you get your account straightened out.
Not having the Pro version, I do not know what tying your Avast account to an Email account provides. I would have expected that was a means to get a license key, if bought online. Otherwise I can’t think of a real need to tie your Avast and Email accounts together. I suppose it could be useful to have if Avast breaks one day, and somebody has to email you instructions to fix it.
Updated solution. There was no phone number for Avast Pro, only submitting a ticket or this forum. However this time I had no problem submitting the ticket. There must have been a glitch in the verification text system. So I should get an answer from the technical support.
Avast accounts is only active if you have purposely set up an account and connected it so as to monitor online security statis ( more beneficial with multiple avast installs to keep track of ), it’s not neccessary for the functionality of avast to protect your system.
