Avast Actions options, Joke?

When Avast detects what it thinks is a virus it only gives me the options to “Move to Chest”, “Delete” and “Block”. Well this is just ridiculous, how about ignore or otherwise still accessing the file without having to disable Avast antivirus? Also when enabling Avast antivirus it also re-enables all modules even if I’ve told it to disable them “permanently”, perhaps my definition of permanently is incorrect.

Also why on earth is the option to Submit the file, always checked, if I wanted to submit it I would do so.

Could someone please tell me how to get around this annoying behaviour because I’m really starting to regret moving from Avira right now.

If you want to ignore a file permanently, you’re free to put the corresponding path into the list of exclusions. If there’s a false alarm, however, it’s certainly better to let it be fixed.

If you disabled some shields, they’re disabled… however, if you ask avast! to enable the shields again (the text specifically says “Enable all shields again”, doesn’t it?), they’re enabled - otherwise the definition of enable would be rather strange, right?
If you don’t plan to ever use a particular shield, you can go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs / avast! Antivirus / Change/Remove / Change - and untick the particular shield; it will be uninstalled.

No, I don’t think the behavior of the Submit file check can be changed.

@ the OP: welcome to last year: the issue has been debated again and again already during the beta testing phase and if you browsed the forums a bit you would have found tens and tens of posts about it. Avast just doesn’t want to offer an “ignore” option. They think that’s too dangerous for noobs and it’s safer to go for a restore from Chest if needed… I don’t agree with them at all and I’m not the only one here. Many system files if caught in an FP disaster just refuse to get restored. best option remains to deactivate the file system shield as fast as you can, deactivate Avast self-protection module (yep, otherwise sys restore can fail, a bug…), and restore your system to a time before the bad vps update happened…good luck ;D

I agree that the “ignore” option is NOT there for security reasons.
What I what is a way to get into Chest in Safe Mode or by a CD/DVD for booting.

I don’t want to ignore it permanently and adding an exclusion path every time I want to ignore something once off is quite frankly stupid. Also then I’ll have to remove the exclusion later for safety, for example if the file has been extracted to a environment variable for the temp folder, though I guess you haven’t put that much thought into it before suggesting adding an exclusion. Do you honestly think this is acceptable just to do a once off ignore of a file?

That still doesn’t change the definition of permanently, however you try explain it, also it’s not what would be expected after permanently disabling a module and enabling the AV, infact if I remember correctly the older versions of Avast used to work like that. Granted I haven’t used Avast for a long time since changing to Avira after years of Avast but I can’t be bothered to install an old version to check.

Thanks for letting me know my second sight is on the fritz, I’ll be sure to have it looked at :stuck_out_tongue: Great, I just love software that treats me like a child and tries to block me from doing things or otherwise “protect me from myself” without me having a say in it, or at the least forces me to jump through hoops to get around it to do something that with other software takes a single click, maybe two sometimes.

ps Avast don’t bother telling me to use something else if I don’t like it, I’ll be going back to Avira again on my next OS partion restore where it gives me the option and I’m not treated like a child on my own PC, I don’t have the patience to convince software devs to be sensible anymore, fix it or don’t.
