I had a suggestion and a question. I am wanting to create an extension for Chrome and other browsers in which it will allow you to click a button that will then add that current web page to the Avast Blocked Site list. It will ask if the user wants to block the whole site or just that page and record it appropriately. Anyone have any suggestions about were I can learn to communicate with avast with the extension and things of that nature. I know how to create Chrome extensions just it’s communication with Avast or if that is even possible with Chrome’s sandbox.
Or if someone is wanting to take on this project I am willing to help out and make it happen.
At first it seems you are asking to create an extension for Chrome that will block sites. To this I would say, "Sure, go ahead, but why Avast!-brand it?
But it seems like maybe you want it to be Avast! branded because…you want this to be something that would allow ordinary end-users to choose what sites to place on the Avast! Network Shield’s site blacklist? If this is what you are shooting for, I have to tell you (though its no “official word”, I dont work for Avast!), I don’t see that happening. No single end-user should have the responsibility of saying what sites are bad for all.
I think that Brennan means the Site Blocking Feature?
(As in Additional Protection - Site Blocking)
That is controlled by an ini entry, however I think that any modifications that you make will be prevented by the self defense module, which will kill the idea of other people using it…
The sites wouldn’t go on the Network Shield’s site blacklist but go on the users personal Site Blocking that is within the Avast Interface. It would be completely controlled by the user and on the users environment. It would be for parental controls basically.
Can’t help you there…even if I could, as Scott said, program modifications might be guarded by Avast!'s self-defense, and getting people to turn off Avast!'s self defense to get a browser extension to work kind kills the idea, on the surface anyway.
If this where to happen, I’m sure something official would have to be done between you and Avast!, not typically handled on the forum, so you might be better off contacting them this way>>http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles, or calling the HQ>>http://www.avast.com/contacts
