Avast! Ads

When Avast! is automatic updated a Pop-up appear “AVAST! IS FREE FOR BUSINESS!”,"Avast Battery Saver"So avast! removed the voice of VPS Updates and put those ads.WHY ???Avast! pls fix this.

There are many, many such topics in this forum.

Avast! should bring back Iconic Voice of VPS Updates.@DavidR

There have been many topics on this not to mention a couple of polls.

So it has been requested a number of times and despite a number of program updates since, avast has essentially chosen not to bring it back. Whether they may bring it back at some point is anyone’s guess.

There was even a poll open on Avasts’ Facebook page about the update popup and the voice as well.

Let the complaints continue to pour in. The more complaints, the better chance that avast reconsiders this.

Well it depends where avast is going. They may plan to dropp VPS and go for stream only as some vendors have. I guess 200-400 poups/voice notifications a day would be annoying.

When are you going to drop this totally outrageous speculation on having a VPS Update notification for every streaming update.

It simply isn’t going to happen, if you think people are pissed about seeing a few Pop-ups, that they have no control over, how do you think they would feel with hundreds per day, avast would be crazy to even consider it.

People are asking for the return of what was the Status Quo, the return of the audible notification on receipt of a “VPS Update.” Nothing to do with streaming updates which have been silent since there introduction. Speculation that one should have an impact on the other is just that pure speculation, bordering on scaremongering.

scaremongering ::)

Yes, it really does get that close, when you keep suggesting that as a possible consequence of avast restoring the VPS Auto Update notification. When I think we all know that simply won’t happen, it would be commercial suicide to contemplate hundreds of popups per day.

Especially if as is the case the user would have no way of stopping the Auto Update Notification popups it is no longer an option in the avast settings.

Extreme times call for extreme measures. Why not just enable the silent/gaming mode and be done with it.
Any downside ?

Yes there are and I have outlined some of them in other topics:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=167446.msg1207818#msg1207818 also see https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=167185.0.

Search for silent mode and user DavidR, you will find others, not necessarily with any discussion on downside. You have to use the Advanced Search function, were you can delimit the results to the Avast Free/Pro/Premier
forum, User name and order by most recent.

Well at the risk of ‘beating this to death’ I have to agree.
I have picked up on this as the Topics have come and gone; and it is true there have been MANY!
I do agree that misinformation and misdirection does little to “clarify the issue”.
The issue is and always has been about the “VPS updates Voice Notification” of which there were a couple or three a day under normal conditions.
With all due respect.

Thanks DavidR

  • I don’t use hardened mode. Looks like silent/gaming mode could be a solution for me.

You’re welcome.

There may well be other instances, but I didn’t come across others when testing.

To be really honest with all of you guys. I really hate the ad for Now Avast is Free for Business being advertised for Avast Free Home Edition. Home Edition is only for home use WHY advertise for business use? These ads should be only targeted for internet security and pro version NOT for home version.

Well to be honest I think those in business might go online at home where they would see the pop-up.
Whereas at the office they probably won’t see the pop-up.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a fan of these pop-ups. I do recognize that avast has the right to advertise their products.
After all, I’m pretty sure the employees want a paycheck. And the stockholders want to see a profit. If enough people try a
free product they may even purchase a license which offers even more protection.

If you don’t like the pop-ups upgrade to a paid product.

  1. The greatest majority of people work, some might even use computers at work.

  2. Avast has a new product that is Free for Business, showing it to people who might have a business that uses computers could benefit from it being free.

In earlier version of avast! 2015 a vps sound option is on.Now days it only remain pop-up about Avast is Free for Business,Battery Saver ???.pls remove those pop-up when database update or bring back the option of avast! sound.Vps sound option is gone now days.

While I understand the reason for the popups, they are increasing in frequency to the point of borderline adware behavior.

I have many free products that I have installed, and use. Some are other types of malware scanners, some are utilities, some are games, and even a free firewall. Not a single one of these other programs generates seemingly random popups in this fashion. The ones that use advertising have a very predictable pattern where they display ads when certain portions of their program are used, or opened by the user, or if a specific button is clicked on.

I can understand the reason for the ads, but there has to be limits! Before, I’d only see these Avast! popups once, or twice a day (not counting the previous database update notifications, which I kept disabled) and now I see them what seems like every few hours, and the ones I see for Grime Fighter, are misleading in that they make you think that grime fighter is installed, and ready to run. You click on that to run it, and it takes you to the Avast! store to purchase, or upgrade… Again, this is borderline adware behavior.

I use popup blockers, and ad blockers on my system for a reason. I don’t like to see ads and popups in my face on a constant basis.
