avast/agnitum?

Does avast still license agnitum for the firewall?i did a forum and google search but found nothing recent.

It will be good to know…

I’ve seen up to v8 was licenced and on Agnitum webpage still Avast is declared as partner with licensed technology. Nevertheless, Avast itself declares that in V9:

“Firewall has been redesigned from scratch to allow for better compatibility with latest Windows, better performance and full support for IPv6”

this might mean that they decided to go on their way, but I’m not sure!

Ya sounds like they are going there own way with the firewall, thanks for reply

Avast only purchased the Agnitum network driver ( not the firewall ) but I believe it caused more problems than it was worth for them so they dropped it.

thanks for the info craigb,i wonder if they are going the way of some other companies and gonna use windows firewall?

I rather doubt that given that the windows firewall is inbound protection (by default) and outbound if you change the settings (win7 firewall and later). The problem with that is it is rules based and isn’t very user friendly. I think the idea of the avast firewall is to be transparent giving the user very little they need to do.

Thanks DavidR,Looking at you signature you don’t use the avast firewall but does avast firewall have some sort of whitelist or blacklist that it uses for outbound protection? As it seems to me it allows everything out on its default settings?I would never set it to ask with my families computers as they would just click allow anyhow.

As you say I don’t use it so I’m not familiar with it other than what I glean in the forums. But as far as I’m aware the various settings (Private or Public connection) result in a different level of permissions.

You can also set up Application rules.

Check the avastUI > Help > Support > Program Help, as that does give some more information.

If you are using AIS already you could also try the avastUI > Help > Support > Tutorial and see if that gives more information.

Also see http://www.avast.com/en-us/media-materials and you could download the Pdf DataSheet for AIS 2014.

k,thanks for the info

You’re welcome.
