Avast AIS in Windows 10

I use Windows 10 so I have the Windows Firewall disabled. The problem with this is I cannot get Windows Updates or App updates with it disabled. I have to wait for it to fail and then turn on Windows Firewall. In lieu of keeping both running is there any way to get around this? I am using the latest Beta BTW.

And why do you think this is related to avast ?

AIS has it’s own Firewall which I am using. If I do not turn on Windows Firewall, I cannot get updates. I do not need nor want to have two firewalls running at all times. I prefer Avast’s Firewall as I paid for it and it is far superior to Windows. That is how it is related to Avast. It is not an Avast problem per se but it is a problem. I can turn of Avast’s Firewall, but that would be foolish. I can I suppose after my subscription is up , use Avast Free and Windows Firewall but I do not want to do that.

I disagree Windows 10 firewall is very good, and as you have seen has many rules pre-defined for Windows own use.
You’re going to get a self-inflicted headache if you try to replace it.

Having not used windows 10 or obviously its firewall. I have a question or two:

  1. In line with previous windows firewalls that have outbound protection, by default outbound protection was disabled.
  2. If you enabled it, it was rules based and the user had to create the rules.

Is that still the case ?

So you are saying that The Windows Firewall is better than Avast’s?? I wonder why so many users buy AIS, per you we are wasting our money. 8)

No some of the rules are created by Windows 10, most of then in fact.

Thanks for the clarification, the old way was poor, meaning most had to use the Windows Firewall Controller program for a more user friendly option.

I’m a user like yourself, not an avast rep. Just my opinion.
I’m running the free version so not running avast firewal. But I am running Windows 10 and I can see all the MS rules.
Does avast offer a migration tool to transfer the MS firewall settings over to avasts? I don’t see how it’s usable in
Windows 10 without it.

It works fine for me. If there was a way to transfer Windows Firewall to AIS it would render AIS useless as I would not be able to get Windows Updates or use any Apps. For now I have added serviced to Start so I can easily turn on/off Windows Firewall.
