What exact version of avast ?
What browser ?
What is the message that avast is showing ?
Seems to me it is the ad-blocker at work.
Sorry:
Avast Program: 17.4.2294 (build 17.4.3482.0)
Avast virus def: 170622-0
IE 11.0.9600.18967 update version 11.0.43
The message avast is showing is in my original post. The URL bar turns red and it displays that text in a box.
I tried the same web access in Chrome on the same box and it does not trigger anything. Ran MalwareBytes and Avast full scans with no threats found.
Please post a image of the detection.
Yes an image is strongly suggested. Without the exact search term, no alert is noted here.
Here is an image.
Typically, when Avast blocks content, it just aborts the connection to the website. As there is no way for the Avast program to decide from which tab the blocked content came, I think it is unlikely that it would display any warning in the tab itself.
Does this happen in other browsers as well?
I have been having an annoying major issue while trying to do business on eBay. This just started a couple of days ago & it has shut eBay pages about 14 times since. I tried adding eBay.com & ir.ebaystatic.com to safe sites to no avail. I get a red screen with the following message:
Avast Antivirus blocked content on this website
ir.ebaystatic.com
Hosted by: www.ebay.com

Avast Antivirus blocked this site because it might contain threats to your PC or your privacy.
I am using Avast Free Version 17.4.2294
What can I do?? Please help.
Agreed. Never have seen such before.
No, just IE 11, not Chrome. Still happening every time I search. It definitely displays the warning in the tab, the screenshot don’t lie.
Anything else I can do here? I don’t know about kbmoore but this is still happening to me.

Since the marked icons look similar to prior iterations of scareware, either this is a specific browser block in a specific browser or it is the result of browser infection. If it was a general malware avast would be alerting in all browsers.
I’d try downloading and running AdwCleaner: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
Let us know what AdwCleaner found. Attach log please.
Seems unlikely I have any sort of adware, I have not installed anything in months and I go to a very limited set of websites on this machine. But it certainly is not impossible either.
“adwcleaner” log attached, it is clean.
Still happening, anything else I can do?
If I understand correctly, you guys think this is an infection of some sort that is putting up the blocked page. I don’t think it is for a number of reasons:
On the other hand, if it is some sort of malware, the issue becomes the last bullet, nothing is detecting it.
If there is any other information I can provide, please let me know.
Tried to visit Ebay several times the last days and there is no problem at all.
No alert, nothing.
It just works as it should.
I certainly realize not everyone is having this issue.
I had a spark of inspiration and opened up IE in “private mode” and went to eBay. Worked fine.
So I deleted all temp files and cookies using Internet Options, and now the problem is gone.
