Avast allowing email download before email scanning active

I start Outlook Express as soon as my desktop is active, and emails are being received which are not scanned.

I have been using this http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/ site to test Avast, and all of the test emails are allowed through,.

However if I wait a few minutes then run the gfi.com test again all are detected with delete etc options offered.

It seems that there is nothing built into Avast to stop email downloading before Avast is fully active.

Are you using Windows XP\2kk or 98\Me?
I can think in a workaround but not a ‘solution’ as avast does not have this option (as far I know…).

Xp Home, thanks for quick response.

I’m wrong… there is such an option into the [MailScanner] section of avast4.ini file.

PassThrough=0

Specifies the behavior of the Mail scanner in situations when the message cannot be tested: lets the messages pass through without testing = 1; does not allow any messages to pass through until the resident task is running or paused = 0; will not allow the mail program to connect to a mail Server = any other, different from 1 or 0 (you may encounter error messages from your e-mail program).

More info, click on Settings in my signature. :wink:
Oh, speed is normal here 8)

Thanks will try your suggestion :slight_smile:

Tried adding PassThrough=0 to the [MailScanner] section of the avast4.ini file didn’t seem to make any difference.

So have used a start up manager and now have Avast starting first and Outlook Express starting last, problem solved.
