I noticed that under Features, it list's Firewall which is obviously incorrect.
Maybe that's referring to Web Shield which is a firewall like behavior but certainly not a firewall.
You are allowed to translate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avast!, since I am the author of that article.
I don’t know who wrote about Alwil and therefor I can’t tell if you can freely translate it or not.
I´ll try to translate it into spanish, but… how can i do it? I am already registered, but i can´t find an option to translate or to create a nuew article. How can i do it?
I hope that reviving a 6-yr-old thread won’t throw all the internets [sic] into a vortex of critical surreality, but I’ve a question that relates directly to this thread, and I thought it best to continue with it.
In the last +1 yr that I’ve been working with AVAST’s Marketing/PR team, I’ve noticed several times the changing content of our Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avast!
So I’m curious if these changes are primarily made by avast! Forum Evangelists or if they’re just other users out there in Cyberland. I’d like to coordinate with whomever is mostly responsible, in part to ensure that the most current (&/or best available) data gets put there.
If it’s someone here on the forum, please contact me via email.
Oh, and THANKS for anything/everything you’ve done for the page thus far.
Thanks, folks. I’m hesitant to make direct changes myself, as an employee, as such has caused controversy for other companies in the past. However, I suppose I can bypass any potential grey areas by using solid sources and by not writing anything like ‘marketing text’.
Yes, as for more of an AVAST history slant, I totally agree. I notice that on the Wiki page the year 1988 is in question, but I’m not sure why, as our biggest historical highlights (including 1988) are all documented on avast.com.
I also don’t see anything relating to the fact that Avast supports Computer Users Groups.
Sends representatives to their clubs for Presentation on “Protecting Yourself and Your Identity Online.”
I would consider that a public service.
Great point, Bob. That’s why I wanted to check with you guys for ideas before doing anything with this. I’m also looking at other companies’ pages to see types of things they have listed.
In Jan 2012, Avast will be heading to the High Seas. I’ll be doing a presentation at a Technology Conference@Sea
Guess I’ll have to brush up on my Pirate Talk. ;D
(This is something that’s been in the planning stages since Dec. of 2010)
mashak, 1988 is questioned because it was in 1995 that the first av software for Windows95 was written and released. In 1988 only a tool for the Vienna virus was written.
It is great to see that since I started the article 6 years ago, it has been growing and growing.
And it is now in over 30(!) languages available.
