Hi all,
I’m new to avast, and so far I’m fairly impressed. However, it seems to have some sort of issue when trying to co-exist with Ad-Watch SE from Lavasoft.
If I prevent Ad-Watch from starting on my machine, and then install avast Home edition, everything’s fine. But if I try to start Ad-Watch, when I reboot next, there’s no avast icon in the systray, even though its processes are apparently running (so avast seems to be working). I tried using the ACE avast tweak utility, and that did bring back the avast tray icon; but when I rebooted again, the icon disappeared again.
I’ve tried various settings on the Ad-Watch to make it less “vigilant” (disabled “block suspicious processes”, that sort of thing), but nothing seems to work except for disabling it completely. Even when I disable it, I have to uninstall and reinstall avast in order to get the tray icon to come back and stay (yes, I use the removal script from this forum to do the avast uninstallation).
Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution? Or do I have to choose between the two programs?
FWIW, I’m running XP Pro, SP2.
Thanks!
–Dave

Hi,
you might want to post a hijackthis-Logfile for diagnosis, so we might see if there are conflicting processes

ack…I just removed ad-watch and re-installed avast for about the 100th time…I’m not too keen on re-doing it yet again!
I think I’m just going to see if there’s a good alternative to ad-watch, rather than try to troubleshoot it to death. Normally I’d be happy to, but I think my PC is going to electrocute me if I reboot it one more time today!

I have no troubles using simultaneously Ad-watch and avast!
If you install avast! after ad-watch, please, turn off ad-watch or enable the installation of all avast! items

Well, you must be a lucky one, because it doesn’t work with mine. I had to disable Ad-Watch to get the avast icon to show up in the system tray, and when I finally re-enabled Ad-Watch and rebooted, the avast icon doesn’t show up. So although the avast processes seem to be running in Task Manager, the on-access control is unavailable from the tray.

If you disable ad-watch and repair (or install again) avast will it work?

Go to Ad-Watch Help files: Options: Filter and follow the instructions. It works!

Do you have the latest Ad-Aware SE 1.06 or an earlier
version ? You may want to post your question on the
forums at www/landzdown.com/index.php . This forum is
staffed by the experts who used to provide advice on the
now-defunct Lavasoft Ad-Aware Support forums .
