I have done searches on this board about this subject and i find all of them contradictory,
the latest avast home edition HAS resident (realtime) anti-SPYWARE / rootkit protection, included with resident anti-virus
It is also suggested that only one resident anti-virus, and ONLY ONE RESIDENT ANTI-SPYWARE BE USED on one device.
Yet, numerous times on this board, advice is given to run avast with a resident anti-spyware program?!
Do the people giving this advice KNOW THAT THE LATEST EDITION OF ADVAST HAS RESIDENT (REALTIME) ANTI-SPYWARE BUILT-IN?
(and according to pc mag it supposidly is really good resident protection)
If so, please answer the contradiction of running only one resident anti-spyware at one time - yet advising running both advast (which once again has resident antispyware along with antivirus protection) with a seperate realtime/resident anti-spyware program?
Avast has antispyware certification. This is according to Westcoast labs.
Don’t ask me for the software coding reason, I don’t know, but maybe it’s because the AV engine/s are what is doing the detection/blocking of spyware - related items, it doesn’t interfere with dedicated antispyware programs, like MBAM, Spybot, SAS etc. (Once again, don’t ask me why, but the way a AV engine works is different to the way an AS engine works. Be aware that the line between spyware and virus has become a bit blurred. The biggest threats these days are more likely to be from trojans and worms, and the payload they can carry, that pure viruses. Most AV’s worth the name should also detect - and hopefully stop - worms, trojans, rootkits etc.)
It does interfere with another resident AV, (and vice versa) in fact, most of them will interfere with each other. And these days, a lot have specific removal tool to clean up leftovers.
I would estimate that most of the users on this board, at least those that have been around for a while, would be well aware that Avast is AS certified. It was a fairly big deal when the certification was announced.
Uhh, you might have misread me. There is nothing wrong with using most resident antispywares with Avast. The extra protection increase might be small; for some it is worth it.
Some combinations have the potential to cause some problems, most of the ones used by the senior forum members play quite well together.
Using 2 resident (real time) antivirus programs is not advisable. There will be conflicts between the 2 eventually. This will actually give you less protection.
Well the basic i would say to only have a Anti Virus,Anti Spyware and Firewall its would be fair enought unless if u want u can add a site advisor but when Avast! got a web shield i didnt think its required. But if u want other protection like Charley got Spybot and Spyware Terminator then its up to you Most of the time people say their computer is slow but well if u got like 10 protections didnt mean your more protected.
-= Antivir is on-demand [somehow but not when you click files since it has a read/write scan same to avast…] & avast is on-access… You might not have problems very often but still, there could sometimes be errors…
