Remarks:

We got 3 false positives.
Kaspersky and Avira could not reach 100%.
ESET and (hey US!) McAfee went down.
Besides the good result, Microsoft will be in the middle between the best and the worst ones.

Anything above 99% is excellent, Microsoft scored the same as Kaspersky except for the FP’s, both better than Eset.

Cant help others judging harshly at 99.7%, it’s just nit picking, as I said anything above 99% is excellent.

I try not to get excited about these things and go on the prior personal experience, e.g. no infections in almost 14 years of using avast.

That however, isn’t just down your AV you have installed, that is just one element. The users browsing habits also help in their protection, if all else fails ensure you have a robust backup and recovery strategy.

100% agree (see what I did there ;D) with user habits being a huge factor of staying infection free.

Multiple AV’s on multiple systems from Avast - MSE/Defender - Panda - Bitdefender - Kaspersky etc and virus free in over 10 years, AVG of old has been the only one that ever let something slip by for me and a system image quickly solved that problem

That’s the point -even with the best AV-protecion something can happen, and backup and recovery is more important than relaying on some software.

That’s the point - even with the best AV-protection something can happen, and backup and recovery is more important than relying on some software.

In most instances, it’s the software (Avast) that’s keeping you safe. The backup is there for the rare instance it’s bypassed.
(Hasn’t happened to me since 2003) I still do weekly image backups but in my case it’s mainly for protection with hardware failure.
(That’s happened a few times since 2003.)
