avast and bitdefender free

Can I use Avast 4.7 with the Bitdefender 8 Free edition?
it is an on demand scanner without shield.
It seems to work fine.

Jan Paul.

Since it is an on-demand scanner it shouldn’t cause any conflict.

However, all I would suggest is that when you want to run a scan with BitDefender you pause the Standard Shield. Otherwise as BD opens files for scanning so to will avast duplicating the scan and should and infected file be detected that is recognised by both scanners they could fight for control of the situation.

Found a Trojan that avast did not find.
Scanning seems OK.

thanks

Do you have the file to send to Alwil for analysis? (virus@avast.com)

avast and BitDefender Free has worked great for me. It is a nice combination. However, BD can be a bit of a resource hog. Personally I set to manual the 2 BD services (Bit Defender Scan Server and Bit Defender Communicator) in services.msc and only start them for a scan.

On my machine, BD as a on demand only scanner uses about 24mb memory :o , avast with 5 on-access providers running, only about 17mb!

Viva avast ;D

Edit for spelling
